People and children don't listen to advice very much, but they do pay attention to what people do. They become great imitators. Employees become great imitators of their supervisors and other leaders within a company. This is why I've never thought much of mission statements in general because I've been involved with companies who don't live up to their rhetoric. But, anyone can see what they do and that is what is most important.
Like helping people? Be the best that you can be is great advice. Leading by example is a great strategy.
