"Your life begins to change
the day you take responsibility for it."
-- Steve Maraboli
Do you know what I love about this guy, Steve Maraboli? It is the words and phrases he uses for things said by so many over a long period of time, and he also says it in a very straightforward, and simple way. He's done it with this quote above very nicely.
I know from experience that what he has said is absolutely true and real. Yet, some may take it a different way, as if then all their problems are solved, as if it is a solution to something. Accepting responsibility probably won't make you rich, although it could. It probably won't make you healthy, although it may trigger a new attitude. It isn't a magic bullet or pill, yet it is one of the most powerful things I've ever experienced.
What it does do is change how you think about things. It especially changes the people who used to get all the blame for all your mistakes, but no more. It means that you begin looking inside much more and more often than looking outside. So many of our wounds are self-inflicted, and we would never leave that safe space of never blaming ourselves, but it isn't a very pleasant place to be. It keeps us in the past.
Steve has another wonderful quote that is fitting here. He says, "Forget yesterday--it has already forgotten you. Don't sweat tomorrow--you haven't even met. Instead, open your eyes and your heart to a truly precious gift: today." I love that line, "forget yesterday, it has already forgotten you." What a great way to look at the past. It isn't the past knocking on our door, it is generally us knocking on the door of the past.
"Once Your Mindset Changes, Everything On The Outside Will Change Along With It." -- Steve Maraboli
Spread Some Joy Today--We are so much more powerful and empowered than we may have thought. That also means that we are totally in control of our own joy.
